NEW YORK, March 1, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- JetBlue Airways (NasdaqGS:JBLU - News) today announces a major expansion of service to its customers' favorite island destinations with the launch of nonstop service this spring between Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, as well as the launch of new nonstop service between Boston and Bermuda and between Orlando and Ponce, Puerto Rico. Bermuda flights begin May 1 while Santo Domingo and Ponce flights begin May 24.

JetBlue will also add additional daily flights for the peak summer season on existing routes between New York/JFK and Aruba; New York/JFK and Santiago, Dominican Republic; and between Orlando and San Juan, Puerto Rico. With today's announcement, JetBlue will this summer offer more flights to the Caribbean/Atlantic region (b) than any other low-fare airline, with nearly 200 weekly flights from Boston, New York/JFK and Orlando.

Santo Domingo: Bello y ahora azul

JetBlue will launch service to the Dominican capital with two daily flights from New York/JFK beginning May 24, 2007. Flights will be operated with 150-seat Airbus A320 aircraft, featuring industry-leading legroom and a complimentary selection of first-run movies and bonus features from FOX InFlight(tm)(c). Santo Domingo will be JetBlue's 53rd destination, and its ninth city in the Caribbean/Atlantic region. To celebrate its new service to Las Americas International Airport, JetBlue is offering introductory one-way fares between New York and Santo Domingo starting at $109(a) each way. The airline previously served Santo Domingo from 2004 to 2005.

``Que mucho te extranyamos, Santo Domingo! We're thrilled to be returning to your beautiful city this spring,'' said JetBlue Founder and CEO David Neeleman. ``The Dominican community has been one of our biggest supporters since we started service to the island in 2004. We brought low fares and great service, and they gave us their loyalty. This is our way of saying 'thanks'.''

Their initial service to SDQ was a middle of the night flight only. at least this time there is a day flight as well, plus a second one during the peak summer travel time. One of the reasons B6 failed in SDQ the first time they did not really cater to people in the Dominican Republic to New York and return as they really where not set up to sell tickets in SDQ. By comparison, US at the time had only one flight a day to SDQ but actually maintained a city ticket office in Santo Domingo staffed by US Employees. Unlike Punta Cana (PUJ) and Puerto Plata (POP) SDQ is not a huge vacation market. but instead a HUGE (VFR) visiting friends and relatives market. For B6 to succeed this time, they have to be able to sell to Dominicans and Dominican-Americans.

Now all we need is JFK/DAB service!!!!!

Apparently Jetblue, like others, don't see the market there. Which is understandable. I can understand that you want more service at your local airport, but I think you may be pushing the subject a bit too much.

I just laughed at the title "gets bluer..." Are they sad jetblue is coming now? Meaning more times to wait? No I am joking.

Though I do admit, the press release does have folks scared to ride on B6, airline ignorance I assure you, however my friend was told she was booked on jetblue to FLL through a travel agency and she panicked and said she didnt wanna fly them because she thought she'd be trapped on board.

After yelling at her for not booking Southwest.. ;) i assured her it was a rare occurance, B6 had a bad day and i am almost positive she won't be stuck on a plane for "hours"....

Needless to say good to see them expand hope it works for them.
