This week marks three sad anniversaries in the US Space Program. Forty years ago, January 27, 1967, a fire on-board the Apollo 1 space capsule killed astronauts Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee during a test exercise.

January 28 marks the 21st anniversary of the loss of the Space Shuttle Challenger and her crew of 7 just 73 seconds after launch from the Kennedy Space Center. February 1 will be 4 years since the loss of the Shuttle Columbia, the first shuttle to fly, and her crew of 7.

Glad you pointed these out, Moose. Very important people to remember indeed. I don't think people realize the importance and relevance the space program has on ourlives. It's alot more than floating around, taking pictures and planning to move to Mars.

Well, there is also Tang and EMU's but that is about all.... when you add these items onto Phil's list, there is not much more to it!

Oh yea, Fu Fighters.....can't forget the Fu Fighters

You're joking, right?

Yes Phil, we all know that that the biggest part of NASA would be the
guppy transporter. On a side note.....the Space program has increased
our knowledge of science and medicine more than any other program in
human history. We have discovered more about our world, our
neighbors and our sun and moon due to the hard work of NASA. People
get all pissy because the shuttle blew up a few times, IT IS DANGEROUS
WORK and everyone in the program knows it! It would be nice if it was
safer but this is the REAL WORLD. In terms of flight, I can not imagine a
more dangerous situation than the re-entry scenario. As far as I am
concerned...the people pushing brooms at NASA are hero's! But I can
still poke fun right....after all, if they really screw up, they can always go
into the transport service!
