Last I heard MNRR retired their FL9s from service... Last time I was going up to NY, I was sitting in a NJT Comet V and saw a NH P32 branching off of the NEC. Damn that thing looks good.

Shall we make a railfan thread in off topic or so for photos. Theres three of us.

Did someone say trains?

Add one more to the list of "foamers" on the board. Ed and I frequent the railroads of the Philly area (or one of them at least). Unfortunately the local CSX mainline has been unkind to us lately and feels it nescessary to run 80% of their trains through after 9 PM.

I guess there's always the Grayscale Railroad, er... I mean Norfolk Southern. :D

Just got back from Washington again,
I'm glad to see there are some Train enthusists on the NYCA forums.

Ed McCoy,
Do you know when they retired them?.. The"Official" Retirement was last November 2005 and they were basically reduced to yard work until they were sent to museums etc. Have they now actually ceased operating the NH FL9s totally?

I'd love to get out more and shoot but being that NJ is the main spotting place in this area I have been a little discouraged to go shoot. After all its NJ. I saw some pretty cool stuff when I Drove through Wilmington, DE a little while back.

There a a few yard in NJ I still have to chekc out though!

That be interesting to see..don't forget to brig some to the next show :)'
Ed,
Do you know if MTA is still operating 413?

Senga, I don't know if 413 is still running. I know they are scrapping some in that scheme. I see a P42 in the back. When I had to go to GCT to make a connection with MNRR to go up to Mammaroneck. I was running and got on the back car just before it left. I got off and heard a diesel and looked to the front the find that I was in a push pull with a P42 leading in the front. I was so heated from trying to make that connection that I jumped on a push pull and didnt even know it!

Unfortunately I not been able to go and do heavy spotting of MNRR and LIRR as much as I would like to. Here are some shots of our area stuff I've taken over the past 6 months.

Nice shots Ed, I really like the second one.

Are you mainly into commuter lines?

Since it seems like we're talking about the FL9s now, I was out last year on the official "Farewell to the FL9" trip that Metro-North ran. I don't know how many are still around, but I think there are still a few that are used on work trains, and occassionally end up on subbing for a broken P32 on the outlying shuttle service.

Fantastic shot Phil,
I think I have come accross your shot before on one of the sites. Do recall getting an email from me regarding the status of the FL9s last January or so?

Senga

I don't think so, but I'm willing to bet that a lot of people have shots very similar to that one, since it was a trip loaded with railfans and cameras, and that was a big photo spot. There were a lot of people there, though you wouldn't know from the photo.

Thanks Senga, actually no I have been shooting alot of frieght since I got back into railfanning. But generally our freight lines run right next to SEPTA. So once in a while you gotta take a shot, our railroad division or as we like to think of them Light Rail service has the most bland equipment. SEPTA gets very boring.

Acela Express passes Cornwells Heights Station in the winter sunset.

CSXTs "Trash Train" K207 passes West Trenton Station in Ewing, NJ. Full of your stinkin NY trash. Your trash comes through about three times a day.

NS W987 climbs the Wood Connector from the CSX Trenton Line mainline then to reverse to the NS Morrisville Line, it's carrying "Air Products" heat exchanger to Morrisville Yard for journey to Yemen. If anyone has ever been to the Udvar-Hazy Museum, if you look overhead you will see these things. They are just massive, words cannot describe.

I take it you mean the older ones. The new DE/DM units are very "meh" (much like Amtrak's P42s and NJT's new PL42ACs).

I never really got much into the LIRR; I suppose it's only because I dealt with it at all in recent years, and I only spent a year living on Long Island (2005-2006). I did get out to Patchogue for the last days of PD Tower and the hooping of train orders, though.

Count me in as a railfan as well. I too, Mario, have a bunch of prints. Nothing digital though....after all on LI, there is just about NOTHING to spot on the rails. I still love the switchers that the "NY & A" run, the former LIRR SW1200's.

Yeah, John, I hear ya. Nothing really to shoot and I dont follow NYA too much.

I got a lot of video and pics from 99 until the last week of old dielse service. GOt a few cab ride videos too. AS I used to work on the RR, it was not a problem back in the day. Have a few stories with throttle up and horns too :)

Even have some pics of me when the C420s were still around.
Great times. Great consists. One of the last great consists I saw was at Babylon, headed westbound, was 2 MP15acs, 2 GP38s and a single P72 Coach car. GOt a quick shot of it.

Next time we get together, remind e, gonna bring out the old goodies!
