Alright guys I thought it could use it's own thread. :)

It's the last weekend before school starts and I'm heading down to JFK on Saturday (I'd love to do Sunday but I have an orientation). I'm going to be meeting up with Matt (G-BOAD) at Cargo Plaza at 2:30 and we'll head off to Burger King or Costco or the Mounds or stay put depending on what the runway config. is at the time. Were also going to hit Terminal 4 for some spotting from the departure ramp. Matt has to leave at 5:00 but I'll be around for a while afterwards.

As long as it's not pouring rain I'll be out. Current weather outlook shows Isolated Thunderstorms with a high of 79 but you never know.

It'd be great if we could get some familiar or new faces out on that day.

Give me a call on my cell if your out on JFK on Saturday

1-845-380-0120

Hope to see you on Saturday!

I'll be down in DC for a Bday party this coming weekend. I hope to do some spotting at BWI before heading to DC.

It's too early for me to say, but I'd love to do more spotting this weekend.

Although, I have no interest in going to the mounds because of the ticks. Maybe when it gets a bit colder in a couple months.

Right now it looks like I should be available also.

Yeah I don't have much interest in going to the mounds either, it was hypethtically speaking on runway config.

Hope to see you and Mel out.

Hope to see you to Moose!

I should be available, and I'd love to finally be out spotting with some of the other people in the group (the couple of times I've tried, I always seem to have missed the "when & where" memo). Keep me posted if any of the times or locations change this time! :P

I was excited to finally get some spotting in after a long break, but it looks like I have somewhere I need to be at 7, but I still plan on coming out for the afternoon (and possibly morning).

I hope to meet a bunch of you there.

Tommy,

BWI?????? You are nuts! :) This Saturday (tomorrow) you will have last chance to catch Ethiopian MD-11 at IAD!!! :) What do you say to that?
Its up to you - BWI = Southwest vs. IAD = Ethiopian MD-11 last flight :)

Just to avoid any confusin maybe we should all meet at Costco instead since that's where the reporter should be?

According to Weather.com the winds should be from the SW tommorow which would mean the usage of the 31's, right?

Hey Matt, if your not sure where Costco is you and I could meet still at Cargo Plaza and then we could head over to meet everyone else.

Looks like Iberia 6251 should be an A340-600 tommorow. (per usual on the weekends) :D

If they stay on the 22s, then I probably won't end up coming out.

I also urge all of you to not use the Mounds if you go out due to ticks!!

It's also a pretty hazy day, which is unfortunate.

Will keep you folks posted.

G-BOAD: I highly recommend you do NOT go to the mounds. Long pants do NOT matter! Phil and I found a tick several days after we got back from the mounds, while sorting our laundry. It's really not a good idea.

Bayswater I think.

By the way I was checking Emirates 201's progress and she has an ETA of 15:10.

I really wanted to do tommorw because I love spotting at JFK on a Sunday but I have my High School orientation

Although we have to remember conditions change throughout the day! It might end up being gorgeous in the afternoon.

Alright just called ATIS again, 22L for arrivals and 22R deparures are stil in effect. Hopefully in two hours the runways will have changed.

I'm about to leave so I won't be able to check the forums. I hope he doesn't mind but I'll give Phil a call as I'm getting closer if the runways have changed to see where he is.

Hope to see you guys!

Bayswater I think.[/quote:3bcd4]

You go from ticks at the mounds to bees and mosquitos (lots of them) at Bayswater. Another one of those spots I avoid....

Besides, Bayswater is no good for shooting from about 12pm through sunset due to the sun being directly in front of you.

I have heard that there is a public park a couple of blocks north of the mounds where you might be able to take some pictures of 22L arrivals, but I have not shot there yet. You might try driving around the area near the mounds and finding that park. I agree with Mel, though, about the haze today....not ideal shooting conditions.

Josh: I was just about to say the same thing about Bayswater. Pick your poison, lol.

15:10 ETA is great, i really want to see the Emirates.
I am going to JFK today b/c i am in my dads office and today is just great plan. Its sunny and the sky is blue. What more could you ask for, x-ept (my new slang words) to change the runway cofig. (and OK, i looked out the window and its not striking blue but this kind of not so blue blue, but its still nice. and and the window is dirty)

Ryan...are you serious? After all these posts and the spotting maps advising people NOT to go to the mounds, and you ask for directions? :shakes head:

Why can't someone go to the mounds? Just because you feel it is not a great spotting location doesn't mean everyone else does. If they are using 22L late in the day and the sun is good it is still a good location to shoot. Wear long pants and check yourself thoroughly when you leave. In the middle of summer you risk picking up ticks on the back nine here, doesn't mean everyone just stops playing golf.

Mellyrose
2006-09-09, 04:52 PM
Nick, I was joking. I just thought it was kind of funny that his request for directions immediately followed a string of several posts advising G-BOAD not to go out there.

Well I went out to the Mounds today and got there around 12:20 or so (I had just missed Korean and LH 747). The haze was a bit bad but it got better. It seemed most of the incoming activity was on 13L, but the Mounds got a nice treat including:

-Atlas 747
-UAL 777 OC and 777 NC
-Eos 757
-Austrian 767 Star Alliance
-2 Eurofly A330s
-Air China 747F
-And lastly, a USAF C-5

And even better? No ticks. Not a single one.

Glad the mounds worked out for you! I would just recommend checking a little bit later, and checking the inside of the clothing you take off as well just to play it safe.

Really nice collectionn of stuff you got there, man! Glad you grabbed 'em.

I stopped at Planeview Park for a short while, minus the reporter.

Chris Haack was there, with his father, and Eric Dunetz, too. We met emshighway, and also a spotter who showed up who didn't know about the site! I hope he joins soon.

It was a little hazy out there today, but was nice to watch 22 departures and hang out with the guys for a bit.

Nice shots there Matt!

The day turned out pretty good actually. Despite the pain of watching most of the heavies land on 22L over 13L it was still nice. After about 4:00 the haze lifted some and the light was just great. Caught the Harmony 757-200 and Mexicana which are new birds for me and of course Ms. Winglets herself showed up which was great.

There was a little while where I wanted to jet over to that park but by the time I was thinking about it most of the good heavies had already landed.

I'm editing my photos at the moment and will post them soon.

Glad you went there after the negative publicity about the spot. I would think the C5 would have made it worth it. Did the shot come out good? Sounds like you got there early for that spot with the sun still pretty high but post some shots.
