I went to BHphoto, looking for a new battery and was surprised to see more than one option for the battrery I need, the BP-511A

I was exhausted then I realized the difference was that hte other brands were non _canon brands. at higher capacities.

canons battery is 1390mAph vs another was 1500 and antoher was 1800. Anyone have experience with these non canon brands?

I assume they wouold work in the same chrage but are they any better or worse?

Depends on the manufatuer...My

Canon 720mAh is over a year old and lasts about 1000+ shots with
normal daytime no flash shooting.

My Digipower is 700mAh is over a year old but only gets about 700+
shots with it .......but was like $20 bucks.... it failed at about 8 months
and now when I charge it, it does not charge completly and the charger
flashes red and green to let me know there is a problem instead of a
green completion. It was dirt cheap and still works, just not right.

Targus 630mAh is about 2 months old and lasts about 1300+ shots and
was dirt cheap...I think it was like $30 for 2 batteries...my brother has the
other with a brand new Canon and says they are about the same.

My friend has a 6 month old Canon XT and his battery went...got 4
Cheapo's instead of the 1 Canon for the same price.

I think El Cheapo is the best bet...after a year of very heavy use...you
will need to start looking anyway. I use all three of mine.. My Canon a
nd Targus get fully drained everytime before changing them and the
Digipower is there just incase I really screw up and wind up with two dead
batteries. I will use it only to drain it for recharge once a month and I am
always amazed at how long the broken battery still lasts. The battery's
show it true colors with high flash usage and long nighttime exposures.

I have 6 no-brand BP-511's, and they work great.
