This week Northwest outlined its plan for its new regional airline which they have named Compass Airlines. Flying under the old FlyI Inc. FAA certificate which Northwest acquired in court from recently shut down Independence Airlines they plan on starting service as early as June with double daily flights from MSP to IAD. Compass will begin using 50 seats CRJs and eventually chose between the CRJ-900 or E175 and have as many at 30 planes with in the next few years. Compass Airlines will be run by former FlyI executives.

having the FlyI team run Compas should have Northwest out of business within a year...

Compass Airlines? Certainly an interesting choice of name considering NW has no direction to begin with!

From what I read on a.net, for a year they will be flying just one CRJ-200, just to keep the certificate from lapsing.

How original....they have a compass on their NW tails, so that really didn't take a lot of thought. ...and like Ari said, with the flyI execs running it, it should be out of business before the larger jets start.

Who said the FlyI execs will be running it? The post only states they will use the FlyI operating certificate, noting about it's management.

I don't get my news from A.net since its half the time wrong and leaves out facts. Here's a quote from NWA
"Northwest's chief financial officer, Neal Cohen, will be CEO of Compass, but five other Compass executives will be from Independence Air."

Maybe Monty from down under can provide more but I wonder when they chose the name Compass, they realized the original Compass Airlines was a HUGE failure flying A-300's around Australia (I believe in the 80's) trying to compete against Qantas and Ansett !

there's another strike against them....
So who do you think NW will end up selling their Pacific routes to, when they need to raise cash to keep Compass alive and restructor into a domestic LLC.....

What is really the point of flying one plane between MSP and IAD, and "growing" to 36 planes in 4 years, what is that chance they will still be around in 4 years, How much did they spend on this.... and how long till SW starts flying from BWI to MSP for $29....
It doesn't seen to be the best idea of how to come out of Chapt. 11....
