I did not know it was their, but on my way home on the M60 bus I saw a large white tail with a logo light on (around 2145) in the distance at the North side of Echo Parking, thought was a US Govt 757 (AF2) checked flightaware
when I got home as there she was !

Well Belgium Air Force 611 Heavy made a "Beautiful" departure off 31 and the sun actually co-operated, about twenty minutes before she departed AF2 C32 departed but in cloudy conditions. Anyway made for an interesting half hour at work !

The George Washington Bridge is always in town! :D

Dick Cheney was in Manhattan to give a speach at the Manhattan Institute, a conservative public policy think tank.

Could this be the reason why I saw a crap-load of low, really close togeather traffic circling over my house around deperture time?

ron i thought you would have noticed that it was cheney when they were adressed as "air force 2" by the tower. now, i wonder if the manner in which the airplane taxxied out for departure had anything to do with the news of mr. bin laden's new tape being released. i did feel a bit insulted by it though. if thier taxi meathod is a response to the tape they they must not feel secure with all the PAPD, NYPD, Secret Service and other police agencies surrounding them. as a city servant i personally feel insulted by thier actions.

Matt C, The way in which AF2 taxied was pretty much the way they taxi everytime they are here, quick taxi down Alpha right past the Que on Bravo, Port escort, runway inspection, all SOP, and lets remember this is a Belgium Air Force A-310 thread, the C-32 was just a nice bonus !

Matt -

I remember seeing a Clinton (or maybe Bush sr) visit to EWR one time...and I am sure I will *never* see an aircraft "taxi" to the runway that fast ever again. Not often I see AF1 taxi to depart often these days, so not sure if thats just how it is done now, or prez was in a hurry, or (if it was clinton) a political decision to avoid memories of the "Hairfoce" One incident at LAX ..... or what...

but back to the Belgian Air Force airliner, it is intriguing how these examples pop up at LGA every so often, but nearly never in comparison to JFK/EWR... even factoring out customs situations..(which I understand can be arranged at LGA if need be..)

Also...an odd coincidence Royal Jet, PIA VIP and Belgian Air Force should all be around NYC within so short a span... wonder if anything showed up at EWR.

Looks like she is leaving ORD tonight for Shannon, Ireland. I was on an a.net thread after questioning if it had a VIP interior and here is the interesting reply

"I prepare the Catering for them,
the aircraft is a multirole one, with arrangable interiors,
tommorow they can bring in our king, and next week they deliver food and clothing to Afghanistan and Congo and bring back troops to BRU."

I understand the Prime Minister of Belgium was on Thursday's LGA-ORD sector !

i understand what you guys are saying about SP surrounding any presidential visitor but i'm looking at things from a city service perspective. there is not a single time when i have had to deal with anybody in that circle that they haven't tried to pass themselves off as simply superior, so yes i feel insulted by them time and time again. they won't realize it though, noses are too high in the air to sniff that out.
