Douglas and Zeta Jones help to woo JetBlue to Bermuda

Bermuda’s Hollywood couple Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones added their support to a bid to lure American low-cost airline JetBlue to the Island when they turned up at a reception at the Grotto Bay Hotel. The two movie stars dropped in to meet officials from the airline who were in Bermuda on a fact-finding tour last Thursday evening.

Tourism Minister Dr. Ewart Brown was also present at the evening gathering and said afterwards that he is optimistic JetBlue will make a decision to fly regular services to the Island from the US mainland, helping boost visitor numbers and particularly those using hotels and guest houses.

The Deputy Premier said: “I’m looking for a positive decision this year and I would hope to see it within the next 60 to 90 days.

“Mr. Douglas and his wife come to the reception we had for the Jet Blue officials and joined in the chit chat and showed that they are part of the Bermuda scene.”

Since 2001 the Government has been working to secure a deal with the fast-growing company, which has seen airfare costs tumble on routes where it has completed with other carriers. Dr. Brown has himself been holding talks with the company for the past three years.

JFK-BDA on B6 would be awesome for travelers and for the island. I hope they do it.

Apparently it worked. JFK-BDA service begins May 4th with 2 flights daily in each direction for $129 each way.
