Bank Hub?

Hi all:

I was reading on airliners.net about US Airways making PHL a 'Bank Hub'. I've never heard of this term--can someone elaborate?

A bank hub is where an airline operates a large number of flights at certain points in the day. For example a morning bank of arrivals and departures followed by a late morning lull, followed by a large amount of afternoon arrival and departures again followed by a lull and then again for the evening and night.

US like many other airlines began using a rolling bank system where flights came in pretty much throughout the day. This allowed for less traffic during specific times like the regular bank system. It also meant planes were in the air more then on the ground. The rolling bank seems to work well for airlines. Why US would go back to a standard bank system is beyond me.
