Anyone planning on taking a side trip from shooting airliners to shooting military jets and aerobatic planes? NAS Oceana is in Virginia Beach, VA and they are having their annual airshow on September 16-18. The Blue Angels will be there, along with three parachute teams, demonstrations from the F/A-18C Hornet, F/A-18F Super Hornet, F-16 Fighting Falcon, and E-2C Hawkeye. Aerobatic performers include Gene Soucy, Jim LeRoy (with his Tribute to the Masters), Kent Shockley with the Shockwave Jet Truck, the Skytypers, and a lot more! Oceana's shows are also famous for the fleet flyby and the Air Power Demonstration, both put on by a number of aircraft based at Oceana.

It's looking to be the last time the F-14 Tomcat will fly at the airshow, and we're hoping for a demonstration and a formation flypast of multiple Tomcats. There are three different airshows over the weekend - a nighttime show on Friday night on NAS Oceana, the traditional Saturday/Sunday daytime show on base, and a Beach Blast along Virginia Beach (on the beach in front of Atlantic Avenue and 24th Street) which features (in the past) a number of nighttime burner passes with a Tomcat and a parajump onto the base, plus a live band and some great fireworks. Mingle with the performers and such. Oh yeah, it's also a FREE airshow, with the option to purchase better seating. http://www.oceanaairshow.com .

Anyone going?
