View Full Version : July 4th Weekend at the Airport! (WARNING: Big Pictures)

Well, it was a busy weekend for the locals! About 17 of us turned out at the airports in total from Saturday to Sunday. Those who were out for all three logged a total of 31 hours there.

I got myself about 1,300 shots. Here is a sneak peak:

Of course I had an ATA 738 in the mix. This one taken on Saturday from Landing Lights Park.

http://nycaviation.com/pichost/weekend1.jpg

Before this weekend, I never had a shot of an Icelandair 752, a plane I've always loved to admire from the Customs Building parking lot. Seen here from the cargo area near 13L at JFK.

http://nycaviation.com/pichost/weekend3.jpg

I liked this shot a lot. United 757 with a NW A319 departing off of 4 in the background. Just kinda shows a busy day at the airport to me.

http://nycaviation.com/pichost/weekend4.jpg

Probably my favorite shot from the weekend. I had been wanting a shot like this for a long time, and I finally grabbed it. A heavy over the Grand Central Parkway with a little height on my side. Thanks to Tommy's step ladder!

Here are some group pics I took on Sunday:

Here are some of the folks that went to the mounds.

Here are people enjoying the spot with an Iberia A346 approaching 22L.

I have no idea why Chris is falling over. lol

http://nycaviation.com/pichost/group3_800_070305.jpg

It was a really great time. A friend asked me what I did this weekend and I explained how I got a total of 9 hours of sleep since Thursday, horrible sunburn, had to get up at 5:30 Saturday and Sunday, and yet I still had an amazing time.

To anyone else who came out, post your pics and tell us about your experience. If you need hosting, let me know by PM (private message) or email.

I suppose I should share a few of my shots from those 3 days of spotting as well! It was great to meet a some new people during the holiday weekend.
After getting lost in Jungle and escaping from canibals I was greeted by these friendly villagers!

Hey guys, I'm new to the site. It's pretty cool to see you guys hanging out getting together to enjoy some airplane spotting. The pics are fantastic! I really enjoy it myself but need some guidance as to where to go to get up close and personal and get a great view of incoming birds at JFK. I've only been to JFK once in the past several years. I'm a lot closer to EWR and go there a lot but I'm looking forward to getting to know JFK and meeting up with you guys. If anyone can help out a newbie that would be awesome. Thanks.

Sorry I missed being with the big groups on Sat. and Sun, but it was nice getting out with a few on Monday for the Tahiti flight. Thought I'd share some shots (cause Phil said I had to :D ).

http://www.anniebees.com/Photos/Assets/images/NYCAviation/EZ_LandingGear_D9916.jpg
It's not like I was wasting film. Terribly backlit approach to 13R overhead so I wasted a minute taking a pic of the main gear.

http://www.anniebees.com/Photos/Assets/images/NYCAviation/TN_A340-313X_F-OLOV_JFK_20050704_D9948.jpg
The shot of the approach to 13L. She never banked fully and there's some heat haze, but we expected it.

http://www.anniebees.com/Photos/Assets/images/NYCAviation/Egret_D0077.jpg
Just for Mike P. ... a "winged rodent" in his words.

http://www.anniebees.com/Photos/Assets/images/NYCAviation/TN_A340-313X_F-OLOV_JFK_20050704_D0032.jpg
Rotation from 15 zillion miles away, but who cares? It's for me.

http://www.anniebees.com/Photos/Assets/images/NYCAviation/TN_A340-313X_F-OLOV_JFK_20050704_D0034.jpg
Passing the tower.

http://www.anniebees.com/Photos/Assets/images/NYCAviation/TN_A340-313X_F-OLOV_JFK_20050704_D0040.jpg
And giving us that bank we were waiting for. About the only one that did the whole afternoon.

http://www.anniebees.com/Photos/Assets/images/NYCAviation/CargoLux_747-4_LX-RCV_JFK_20050704_D9997.jpg
About the only other aircraft that gave us a good bank departing 13R.

http://www.anniebees.com/Photos/Assets/images/NYCAviation/BA_747-436_G-_JFK_20050704_D0106.jpg
And ended the day with a rather lackluster sunset. Oh, well, we enjoyed the time with our friends and that's all that counts.

haha. Thoguht the Iberia A346 did show up that day, and I did take a pic of it from the mounds there, That phot WAS edited. I put the plane there, as the angle made the planes look too small for the motive I was going for.

JFK is so exciting. A340-600s from Iberia, Cathay and Virgin, equip subs of them with Thai. 777-300s from ANA and Air France.

Doesn't get much better.

2 airports, 3 days, 9 bug bites (including one the size of Texas) and 1,669 shots. If there was anything so wrong yet so right, this has gotta be it.

Not many people shots from me, but Senga, Phil, and Tommy did an incredible job with those. Still want to see my flex shot, Tom!

Had a few nice S-Turns on Saturday, the DL 732 put on a show but this Saab certainly threw himself around to maintain separation so he didn't have to go around.

Then it started to get darker and brighter at the same time. How odd.

Eric, the Varig 772 from Sunday was PP-VRI.

Come Sunday, we knew we'd been out WAY too long when we realized we could fleet the entire JetBlue fleet not once, but at least twice in one day.
Beantown Blue at LGA:

JAL arrived...
http://www.nycaviation.com/hosting/2233_JAL744_JA08073_JFK13Larr_BF.jpg

Then Senga, our favorite Public Enemy No. 1, coaxed us into staking out El Al Cargo for a few shots.
http://www.nycaviation.com/hosting/2247_IberiaA346_EC-JCZ_JFK13Larr_BF.jpg
We were gone as quickly as we had arrived.

Then the extended weekend concluded with Air Tahiti Nui on Monday. Like Art said, she was almost the only heavy to pull off a right turn, and I'm happy I was able to catch it with Cheez-Doodle fingers.

So if this past weekend is anything to go by, the camera crews will have loads to shoot. To say "I had a blast" is a sore understatement. I'm burned and bitten, yeah, but I'm also really pumped and can't wait for the next meetup.

I had a blast,
Brian

Great shots guys. I was busy with the family on Sun/Mon so missed out. Nice shots of the TN A340, I was at the pool with the boys so skipped it :(

Did manage a few shots at EWR on Saturday. Highlight was the 2 Star Alliance jets and the AS B737-800 with winglets for me.

Wow, this is the second time I've missed out on the really big group get-together! :) It looks like you guys all had a great time. I'm glad to see that the weather was nice for the long weekend. I have been enjoying my vacation in Scottsdale and have only been doing a little spotting here and there. Tomorrow I'm heading over to DVT for an hour in a C-172, and then I'm heading over to PHX immediately with the hope that I can catch Southwest's Maryland One departing for HOU at 9:25am. I look forward to seeing all of you guys when I get back home...I'll definitely be around for all the filming in July.

No way what? I don't get it.

I think i do. After reading all of rod945's posts, it seems that this is some sort of spam computer robot. it has said nothing in regard to ariplanes or spotting, and it quotes random things. Its signature is composed of links to some sort of casino.

and if you really are a person rod945, I am sooo sorry, but please prove me wrong.

How does a spam robot sign itself up for a forum account?

GrummanFan
2005-11-12, 01:06 PM
I dont know exactly how, but I know it can happen. If you have a Yahoo email account, you know that when you sign up, you have to copy a few slightly scrambled letters and numbers from a picture. A computer program cant read these, so therefore it prevents such spam programs from operating under yahoo.
