No details but hearing reports of a disabled Song 757 at JFK closing one runway, this caused
one particular diversion, jetBlue 290 BUR-JFK diverted to ISP for fuel, is back at JFK now, the flight
tracker showed a 13 min flight ISP-JFK.

Further info is welcome !

Wow, that's prety exciting. ISP actually geting some action.

I wonder how prepared the pilots are for such a diversion.

Does ISP have ILS? Today's weather was less than perfect.

Yes ISP has an ILS system, runway 6/24 is fully equipped. To bad I was busy, would have been cool just to see B6 at ISP, not that I could get a picture in this crap weather.

Talk about being alone in a place you're not welcome.

Probably fairly prepared.

NYC is probably the easiest location to divert to, solely due to the number of airports and the number of instrument approaches available.

I'd imagine it's much more difficult to divert your 757 from BOI in IFR conditions, approaching wx mins than it is to divert the A320 from JFK in the same conditions.

Well, just changing course, I would assume, requires a sudden need to change all your charts and computer stuff to land not only on a different runway than you thought, but a completely different airport.

ISP has ILS both Ry 6 and 24. The runway is 7002 ft, which is 2 ft longer than either of LGA's runways, which may be surprising to some. I actually watched a heavily loaded DC8-60 take off from ISP once in the 80's (Northeastern), and it was close!!

If not mistaken, B6 pilots have their entire flight bags per se on their laptops--no more paper. Reprogramming the FMC for a different airport should be rather easy as well.

I am sure anyone who didn't know what was going on was shocked to see a B6 320 at ISP--and wondering when it might become a regular inhabitant!!

Thanks to the idiocy of US scheduling I have not been able to get connections out of ISP for a while, and have been using LGA--shame....

Hey Art when Northeastern flew out of ISP 6/24 wasn't yet expanded to 7000 feet. 6/24 wasn't increased til long after NE was history. Thos DC-8's used every inch of runway to takeoff. Remember my father telling me a story when he flew NE and a good part of the cockpit guages had "inop" tags on them.

I once saw a DL 757 at ISP. It was a diversion. That was the best. There was a Carnival A310 at ISP also.

You are right about ISP 6-24. It was only 6000 feet at the time.

Eastern had PVD-ISP-FLL on a 757 for a few months as well.

AA and for a short time UA had 727's to ORD for a while too.

Does anyone know what US plans for ISP?

Does US even have any plans for ISP? I know that they started a BOS route after AE dropped it. They also added the SF-340. It would be nice if they send a 737 to ISP but I doubt they have enough people to fill one up.

There were a lot of airlines that once served ISP.

AA had 727s at ISP for a good period of time, besides ORD they also served RDU with 72's. As for US's plans for ISP, LMAO!!!!!    We're luck they serve PHL and BOS. US has so many problems right now they'll be lucky to live through their own survival plans.

Yea, you just have to bring it up on the FMC, and pull out the proper plate for the approach or ILS you're using. I'm pretty certain B6 pilots are issued laptops which contain most of this.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when flying you should know your alternate airports before the flight, or at least it's common practice and good advice, in case something does come up and you are forced to divert quickly.

Too bad no one went to ISP and got the picture. That would be a good shot, B6 at ISP, maybe they can make it regular. I am sure some ISP people were happy to see the plane at ISP.

Did Eastern at one time use ISP as a stopover for it's 75's?

yes, I think it was PVD-ISP-FLL.
