The Future of Business Aviation in Focus at NBAA BACE

The annual NBAA Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (BACE) lands in Las Vegas this week with a focus on cutting edge technology that is expected to shape the future of aviation. Now in it’s 69th year, BACE is considered the premiere event and annual meeting place for the business aviation community.  The event brings together aviation professionals from around the world, including service providers, vendors and aircraft manufacturers along with current and prospective business aircraft owners, customers and other interested parties into one meeting place to get critical work accomplished.

NBAA expects over 23,000 attendees at this year’s BACE event which will feature over 1,000 exhibitors as well as over 100 aircraft on static  both at the Las Vegas Convention Center and at nearby Henderson Executive Airport (HND).

Highlights of this week’s show include:

Parade of Planes

One of the popular features  of BACE is the indoor static display of aircraft at the convention center. But how do the aircraft get there? They’re towed overnight from McCarran International Airport through the streets of Las Vegas.

UAM/UAS Showcase

The Innovation Zone at BACE will feature an Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) display. Leading companies in this emerging segment such as Uber Elevate, Airbus, Boeing, Bell and Jaunt Air Mobility will be on hand to give attendees a glimpse into the types of aircraft that will be entering the aviation scene within the next decade.

Sustainability

With increasing concerns over carbon emissions produced by aviation operations, the business aviation community is making efforts to increase the use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). To that end, SAF will be available this week at HND, with all turbine aircraft refueling at the airport taking some amount of the green fuel. By the end of the show on Thursday, it is expected that 150,000 gallons of SAF will have been pumped thanks to a collaborative effort between the airport, local fuel suppliers and show organizers.

Workforce development

A major focus for NBAA the last few years has been attracting talent to the business aviation workforce. The 2019 NBAA-BACE show will have several events and sessions geared towards both young and aspiring aviation professionals. The Careers in Business Aviation Day will feature discussions led by new FAA Administrator Steve Dickson and Jim Payne, chief pilot of the Perlan Project.

Newly Certified Business Aircraft

NBAA-BACE also will offer attendees the unparalleled opportunity to get a close look at several newly certified business jets, including the Cessna Citation Longitude, Bombardier Global 6500, Gulfstream G600 and Embraer’s Praetor 500. Jets won’t be the only newly approved aircraft types on display, however, with Tecnam’s P2012 Traveller piston-twin commuter aircraft making an appearance.

On Monday evening, just prior to the opening of BACE, Gulfstream introduced a new flagship aircraft, the G700. The G700, Gulfstream’s answer to the Bombardier 7500, will have a larger cabin than the G650 and boasts a range 7,500 nautical miles. With a launch order by Qatar Airways, deliveries of the G700 are expected to commence in 2022.

    Hi Gabe,

I was recently at NBAA BACE, and I was at the meeting on Monday evening, and I can say that I am positively hyped for the G700, and I’m sure that I’ll follow the up and downs of the production, as I’m sure you’ll do to!
