Alaska Airlines has announced route expansion by adding three new transcontinental routes, utilizing both their own aircraft, and that of 2016-acquired Virgin America.

The new routes will launch between August and November of this year. Portland, Oregon will add routes to Detroit and New York’s JFK using Alaska’s Boeing 737 aircraft, while a Los Angeles-Philadelphia route will be served by Virgin America’s A320-family aircraft. Alaska’s Portland-JFK flight will be in addition to the Portland-Newark route already served by the airline. This will be Virgin’s second foray operating LAX-PHL after previously operating the route from 2012-2014.
