Small FedEx Plane Crashes in Wichita, One Dead

A small plane operating for FedEx crashed in Wichita, Kansas, Tuesday morning, killing one person.

The plane went down and burst into flames in a field near the intersection of South Tyler Road and West 47th Street South in Wichita, according to KAKE. Maps put the crash site about 2 1/2 miles southwest of Wichita Mid-Continent Airport (ICT).

Based on FlightAware data examined by NYCAviation combined with local media reports, it is believed the plane was a Cessna Caravan operated by Baron Aviation Services, a Missouri-based cargo contractor that flies on behalf of FedEx Feeder.

The flight had just departed from ICT on a scheduled flight to Garden City, Kansas (GCK).

    Hey Zip Weed, I saw the pictures of the crash…there wasn’t any evidence of fire. Please go back to Hollywood and leave the reporting to people who know how to do it!

    If you download the KICT Approach (West) archive from LiveATC.net, (starting at 1330 on 11/6) you will be able to hear the pilots exchange with ATC before his off-field landing which obviously ended in the worst case scenario. Not only did he suffer an engine failure, it also covered his windscreen with oil making visibility poor. The Cessna Caravan 208B was built in 1991, less than 2 miles from where it crashed.
