The first Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules built for the Sultanate of Oman conducted its maiden test flight this week.
Oman has three of the new planes on order.
Situated on the southeast corner of the Arabian peninsula, Oman currently operates three C-130H models obtained in the early 1980s.
The new planes will be used to access inhospitable airstrips within the country, Lockheed said.
Over 250 C-130Js have been delivered to about a dozen nations since production began in 1998. Among the longest lasting designs in aerospace, over 2,300 C-130 aircraft have been built in the 56 years since its introduction with the US Air Force in 1956.
