Icelandair passengers will get to surf the web by the end of this year.
The airline says it will install Row 44’s high-speed Internet and television system on its entire fleet of 20 Boeing 757s starting in the fourth quarter of 2012. Icelandair links its Reykjavik hub to dozens of cities in the US, Canada and Europe.
Unlike some ground-based systems, such as Gogo, Row 44 uses a roof-mounted transceiver to communicate with a satellite network, which provides coverage on transoceanic routes as well as over land.
Icelandair becomes the fifth airline to sign up for Row 44 services, joining Southwest Airlines, Norwegian Air Shuttle, Mango Airlines and Transaero Airlines.
