United Airlines announced Tuesday that it will launch flights between Denver and Tokyo with its new Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft.
The daily service will commence on March 31, 2013.
“I want to recognize the efforts of Mayor Hancock, Kim Day, Manager of Aviation, and her team at Denver International Airport, and the business and civic leaders in Denver who have worked together to bring this great new international destination to our customers in Denver,” said Jeff Smisek, United’s President and CEO, in a statement. “Our customers will enjoy the direct, nonstop service on our new Boeing Dreamliner aircraft, which will provide a spectacular flying experience.”
“Opening this next frontier of opportunity with a nonstop flight to Tokyo will create new jobs, generate more than $130 million in annual economic benefit to Colorado, and elevate Denver as a world-class city on the global stage,” said Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, in a statement. “Together with many of our business and civic partners, we have worked for nearly a decade to secure this flight. Thank you to United Airlines for their commitment to the Denver market and DIA.”

The Denver-Tokyo service, for which tickets are available immediately, is the second 787 route announced by United, joining Houston-Auckland.
United has 50 Boeing 787s on order, and is set to become the first US carrier to take delivery of of the new airliner sometime this summer. Cabins will be outfitted with 219 seats: 36 BusinessFirst, 63 Economy Plus and 120 standard Economy.
