Formally delivered late last week, the first Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental actually flew home to Frankfurt with its Lufthansa owners on Tuesday.
The departure followed an exciting morning featuring several hours of ceremonies and tours of the largest passenger airliner Boeing has ever built.
About 30 Lufthansa and Boeing executives made the trip to Lufthansa’s home base, which even included touch-and-go in Hamburg, Germany, toward the end of its roughly 9 1/2 hour flight.

Set to replace Lufthansa’s 747-400 jets, the new plane is scheduled to debut in June on Lufthansa’s Frankfurt-Dulles run. Los Angeles and Chicago have also been mentioned as potential routes, along with cities in India.
