Big Flocking Deal: Air Force Two Hits Birds While Landing in California

An Air Force plane carrying Vice President Joe Biden suffered a bird strike while landing in southern California late this week.

The C-32 jet, a modified Boeing 757 airliner, was on approach to Santa Barbara Municipal Airport on Thursday evening when the encounter with birds occurred.

Landing continued without incident and no one onboard was injured. The condition of the birds was unknown, but most likely not good.

It was not clear how much, if any, damage was incurred by the C-32, but Air Force mechanics appeared to be closely inspecting the plane’s left engine.

An alternate C-20 aircraft, the military version of the Gulfstream III business jet, was sent to pick up the VP when he was ready to leave, according to KEYT.
