AeroGal will discontinue its flights linking Ecuador to New York City and layoff 10 percent of its employees, according to a company statement.
The airline’s daily Guayaquil-Cuenca-New York JFK service, operated by Boeing 767 aircraft, will fly for the last time on April 17.
The Quito-based carrier, a subsidiary of the Colombian and Salvadoran concern AviancaTaca Holdings, launched the route in December 2009.
With their exit from New York, AeroGal will no longer serve the United States. Passengers with reservations after the 17th will be accommodated on Avianca flights.
