2009 – Bolivia’s AeroSur begins charter flights between Cuba and Miami.

2005 – For the first time since 1949, a direct commercial flight from mainland China lands in Taiwan.

2003 – Boeing for the first time publicly announces its plan to develop a “a 200- to 250-seat airplane that will fly between 7,000 and 8,000 nautical miles” to be known as the 7E7, and would later be renamed to 787. The news comes a little over a month after Boeing announced the discontinuation of their supersonic airliner program, the Sonic Cruiser.

1920 – President Woodrow Wilson appoints Orville Wright to the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics.

1916 – Germany bombs Paris using Zeppelins for the first time.
