Hawaiian Airlines to Launch New York Flights

Hawaiian Airlines announced Wednesday that it would launch daily nonstop service between Honolulu and New York’s JFK International Airport in June 2012.

The service will be operated by the airline’s new Airbus A330-200 widebody jets, which seat 18 passengers in First Class and 276 in Economy.

Hawaiian says the eastern U.S. is the second largest source of traffic for visitors to Hawaii, and the new service will add 107,000 seats to the state annually.

“New York is an important part of our growth strategy. Hawaiian is the leading airline in Hawaii’s largest tourism market, the U.S. West Coast, and we are expanding in Hawaii’s third largest market, Asia. Adding service to the largest market in the Eastern U.S., Hawaii’s second largest tourism market, was a logical step,” said Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian’s president and CEO.

Continental Airlines currently operates the New York area’s only nonstop service to Hawaii out of Newark.

HNL-JFK will begin on June 4, 2012, with JFK-HNL commencing the following day.

Introductory fares will start at $212 in economy class (in honor of the Manhattan area code) while First Class will run $808 (the Honolulu area code).

Depart HNL: 3:05 pm
Arrive JFK: 6:55 am
