On This Day in Aviation History: October 18th

2002: Boeing Phantom Works reveals its secret Bird of Prey program, which had been developing stealth aircraft for the previous several years. Technology from Bird of Prey would be used in the Boeing X-45 unmanned combat plane.

1983: Pan Am and American Airlines announce an unprecedented deal in which they would trade aircraft: Pan Am would give American 15 McDonnell Douglas DC-10 jets in exchange for eight Boeing 747s.

1967: The Soviet spacecraft Venera 4 approaches Venus, becoming the first probe to measure the atmosphere of another planet.
