Alaska Airlines on Tuesday announced the launch of a discount program for residents of the state of Alaska featuring free checked baggage for members and other perks.
Dubbed Club 49 in reference to Alaska being the 49th state to join the U.S., the free program is open to all Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan members who live in Alaska. The program is “intended to bring down the cost of air travel to help support the unique needs of Alaska state residents,” said Alaska Airlines President Brad Tilden in a statement.
Alaska Airlines normally charges $20 per checked bag per flight, but Club 49 members will be allowed to check two bags at no charge, saving up to $80 round trip. When flying within Alaska, members will be allowed to check three bags, a savings of up to $120 round trip.
Members will also receive two one-way “Travel Now” discount vouchers valid for 30% off full flex Y base fares when purchased within four days of departure. Unique weekly fare sales will also be sent to Club 49ers via email.
The program will launch November 1st.
