1949: The first prototype of the de Havilland Comet, the first jet-powered airliner, makes its first flight. There are no longer any flying Comets, but its heavily modified military derivative, the Hawker Siddeley Nimrod is still in service. One Nimrod visited Stewart Airport (SWF) last year.
1972: The McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle flies for the first time.
2002: In the worst air show disaster in history, a Sukhoi Su-27 fighter aircraft crashes during a demonstration in Lviv, Ukraine, killing 85 spectators and injuring 100 others.
2007: Two news helicopters collide over Phoenix while covering a police pursuit, killing all four people on both choppers.
