Russian investigators said on Saturday that the attack at Moscow’s Domodedovo airport was carried out by a resident of Russia’s North Caucasus region and was aimed primarily at foreigners, RIA Novosti reported.

“It was no [coincidence] that the terrorist attack took place in the international arrivals zone,” Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin said. “Investigators believe that it was directed against, in the first place, foreign nationals,” he added.

Markin did not reveal the identity the bomber or any further details.

According to investigators, the blast, which killed 35 people and injured more than 200 others, was carried out by a 20-year-old resident of the country’s volatile North Caucasus region

The attack happened less than a year after two female suicide bombers from the North Caucasus republic of Dagestan attacked the Moscow metro, killing 39 people.
