American Airlines and JetBlue Airways on Wednesday announced the launch of a reciprocal frequent flyer agreement that will be effective starting on Thursday.
The agreement will allow American Airlines AAdvantage program and JetBlue’s True Blue customer loyalty program to earn AAdvantage miles and TrueBlue points respectively, in selected markets.
“The opportunity for AAdvantage members to earn AAdvantage miles on select JetBlue flights and our expanded ability to connect customers between our airlines provides more choice, more value, and more flexibility,” said Maya Leibman, President – AAdvantage Program.
In addition, customers will be able to book travel on select American or JetBlue itineraries through American’s website AA.com. It also expands the commercial agreement launched last March to include one new American Airlines international market and nine new JetBlue domestic markets.
Customers can now easily connect on flights to a total of 15 of American’s international destinations departing from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Boston Logan Airport (BOS) including Barcelona, Spain; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and Tokyo, Japan.
On the other, customers will be able to connect with the 26 JetBlue domestic markets which include Portland, Maine; Rochester, New York; and Richmond, Virginia. American Airlines will also provide a new service to Budapest, Hungary, starting in April 2011.
“This is the latest step in our network strategy which is designed to provide the best connections between American’s global network and the networks of other quality airlines,” Leibman added.
“Our completely redesigned TrueBlue program, which just celebrated its first anniversary last week, has made true on its promise of giving travelers more value and flexibility, and now with this new relationship, it’s delivering them even more exciting destination options,” said Dave Canty, Director of Loyalty Marketing at JetBlue.
