American Airlines and British Airways to Fly New York-London Shuttle Service

In addition to the new routes being rolled out between the US and Europe as part of their new trilateral alliance with Iberia, American Airlines and British Airways will begin operating a shuttle-type operation between New York-Kennedy (JFK) and London-Heathrow (LHR), with flights leaving every 30 minutes during evening hours.

Beginning in April, two morning flights will depart New York at 8am and 9:30am, followed by a 6pm flight, and then playing out the day with departures every 30 minutes until 10pm.

The new schedule is meant to strike a formidable blow against its competitors in the busiest transatlantic market. Combined with British Airways’ super premium JFK-London City flights operated on Airbus A318 aircraft, as well as three daily flights from Newark-Liberty (EWR) the two airlines will operate 16 daily flights between New York and London.

For comparison, the newly merged United/Continental offers four daily flights to Heathrow out of its Newark-Liberty (EWR) hub. Virgin Atlantic flies from JFK and Newark to Heathrow six times a day during the week. Delta operates three daily London flights out of JFK.

Flights will be operated by a combination of American Airlines Boeing 777 aircraft and British Airways Boeing 747 and 777 jets.
