Delta Air Lines will install all new interiors aboard each of its 16 Boeing 747-400 aircraft, the company announced Thursday. Upgrades will be performed between 2011 and 2012.

The BusinessElite cabin will be upgraded with 48 horizontal lie-flat seats, similar to those already installed aboard Delta’s 777-200LR fleet. Each seat features a universal power outlet, a USB port, a personal LED reading lamp and a 15.4 inch Panasonic video display. The new entertainment system offers 250 movies, HBO and Showtime programming, video gaming and 4,000 music tracks. Each seat, manufactured by Weber Aircraft, will measure 81.7 inches in length and 20.5 inches wide.

Economy fliers will enjoy the first seat/in-flight entertainment package designed as one system, built in a joint effort between Weber Aircraft and Panasonic. A 9-inch touchscreen display will deliver movies, HBO and Showtime content, video games and music to each seat. A slimline design will provide customers with 1.5 additional inches of personal space.

The added space for passengers does come with a hit in the capacity department: BusinessElite will now only have 48 seats versus the current 65. Economy will remain unchanged at 338, for a total capacity of 386 passengers, compared to 403 in the current configuration.

Delta says all of its widebody aircraft will feature personal video displays in Economy by 2013, and over 100 of their transoceanic 747, 767 and 777 aircraft will offer full flat beds.
