The Brazilian business magazine Exame reported Friday afternoon that Sao Paulo-based TAM Airlines has reached a merger agreement with LAN Airlines of Chile.
TAM is South America’s largest airline by market share. The merged entity, to be known as Latam Airlines Group, would be the largest airline in all of Latin America. The brands would continue to be operated separately.
LAN is a member of the OneWorld alliance, while TAM is a Star Alliance carrier.
