Virgin America Orders 60 Airbus A320s, Announces Plans for Sharklets

Fancypants sharklets are coming!

Virgin America today at the Farnborough Airshow announced an order for 40 new Airbus A320 aircraft, with options for an additional 20. Deliveries will take place between 2013 through 2016 at a rate of about 10 each year. The additional optioned aircraft would be spread out for two years beyond that.

Virgin also plans on adding aerodynamic “sharklets” to all of their planes, the airflow-improving Airbus version of winglets, which become available late in 2012.

Virgin America currently has 28 aircraft in their fleet.
