A walkout by French air traffic controllers is expected to cause significant disruptions to flights in and out of Paris Tuesday night and all day Wednesday. Union officials say the strike will end Thursday morning.

France’s aviation authority has requested that airlines cut 20% of Wednesday’s flights at Charles De Gaulle Airport (CDG) and 50% at Orly (ORY).

Air France says it will operate all of its long-haul flights normally Wednesday, but will cut its short- and medium-haul service by the amounts suggested by French authorities.

Union officials say they are striking over the Single European Airspace initiative and its potential effects on their jobs.
