2004 – A Tarom Boeing 737-300, (registered YR-BGC “Constanţa”) hits a car on the runway of Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport while taking off for Sharm-el-Sheikh in heavy fog. The plane is severely damaged but no one is injured. The pilots did not see the car, which was parked on the runway by maintenance workers repairing a beacon, due to the fog.
2006 – A Basque separatist organization uses a van to deliver a bomb to a parking garage at Madrid Barajas International Airport. Though there was extensive damage, only 2 people died in the blast.
1905 – The Wright Brothers ink a 1-million franc deal with French Emissary Arnold Fordyce to sell a flying machine capable of flying 31 miles. The deal would later break apart, with the Wrights receiving 25,000 francs for their trouble…their first money earned for flying.
