Hundreds of Air France passengers were stranded Monday night after Flight 007, the airline’s evening A380 service from JFK to Paris DeGaulle, was canceled due to undisclosed technical problems, according to French media reports.

French radio network RTL says the flight’s 580 530 passengers were all transported to a single hotel, which, not surprisingly, was unable to accommodate all of them. The remaining passengers were bussed back to the airport for an uncomfy night in Terminal 1.

While technical problems with a brand new aircraft are understandable, it seems Air France has some work to do in the logistics planning department when it comes to the uniquely huge numbers of passengers that can be inconvenienced when the superjumbo breaks down.

I wonder what determines who gets to stay in the hotel and who has to go back to the airport. If the airline returns one of their elite frequent flyers to a corner of the terminal, it will be a PR nightmare.

I was a passenger of this flight. Although it took a long time to accommodate every one and the logistics was far from great (both from the airport people in charge and Air France management), we all got an hotel room in 4 or 5 different hotels. More precisely, I was told that AF had booked 100 rooms in 3 hotels (300 total) but it wasn't enough and people were not dispatched "rationally" to the different hotels, so we had to be transfered from hotel to hotel.
Now we are waiting to know when we'll get out of there!

To be clear, I forgot to say that NO ONE was left behind at the airport. I was in the last bus to leave the terminal.

Not tooo much different when a fully loaded 747 breaks down, seems like Air France did not cordinate the hotels correctly…….
