On this date in 1969, Brazil’s Ministry of Aeronautics formally created what has become one of the world’s foremost aircraft manufacturers, Embraer. Here are some of our favorite photos, in no particular order, of Embraer jets and props operating in diverse environments around the globe, one for each year of the aerospace giant’s existence.

Without getting into politics at all, the people at Embraer were undoubtedly proud that one of their aircraft played an important role in the 2008 United States presidential race. The McCain/Palin camp leased an E-190, reg N239JB, from JetBlue to ferry Gov. Sarah Palin to various campaign appearances across the country, for example in this photo shot during a stop in Orlando, Florida. After dropping off Palin in Anchorage one last time following the election, the plane was returned to JetBlue, in the process setting a world distance record for the type (and probably any Embraer aircraft) by flying Anchorage-Buffalo nonstop, 2,694 nautical miles. Hey Embraer, how about building an airplane that you can put all the passengers and baggage on without weight restrictions. Wouldnt it be nice to put a passenger in every seat ?
Also, while your doing that, can you produce a seat that is a little more comfortable than a park bench?
    Thank you.
