NYCAviation has come across renditions of several possible color schemes that American Airlines may apply to the continuously-delayed but much-anticipated Boeing 787. These schemes include their common bare-metal livery as well as flagship and retro colors.

The question that’s been on everyone’s mind is, of course: How will they achieve that gorgeous bare-metal look on the non-metal composite material?!

We’re not exactly sure, either. There are various chrome paint alternatives that are made for high performance, but these would still need testing and approval by the FAA.

Nevertheless, these pictures look pretty good.

American placed an order for up to 100 copies of Boeing’s newest jet in October 2008. Initial deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2012, but production delays may push that back up to a year, perhaps longer.
